Management Profile

With effect from 1 April 2010, Dr. Robert Wassmer left the Executive Management of Gottwald Port Technologie GmbH and assumed global responsibility for Product and Contract Management functions as a member of the Executive Committee of the parent company Demag Cranes AG.

Following his studies, Rainer Berthan worked for a number of years as a management consultant for customers in the mechanical and plant engineering sectors.

He then moved to a subsidiary of the Daimler Benz Group in Munich and was appointed commercial director and authorised signatory.

In 1998, Mr. Berthan joined the RWE Group and was CEO of the telecommunications business unit of TESSAG.

From 2002 to 2004, Rainer Berthan was a Management Board member of the Helmut Lehmer Group with responsibility for plant engineering projects in the telecommunications infrastructure sector and then moved to the Weidmüller Group, a leading manufacturer of electrical connector components, where he was responsible as Chairman and President for managing the subsidiaries in the People’s Republic of China.

Mr. Rainer Berthan has held the position of Chief Executive Officer of Demag Cranes & Components GmbH in Wetter since 1 January 2008.

On 1 April 2010, Mr. Rainer Berthan became a member of the Executive Committee of Demag Cranes AG, which has its registered office in Düsseldorf, and was also appointed a Managing Director of our subsidiary Gottwald Port Technology GmbH.

After studying mechanical engineering, Dr. Mathias Dobner took his PhD at the leading ISF Welding and Joining Institute of the University of Engineering and Applied Science in Aachen.

In 1996, he began his career in the Terminal Automation Division of Mannesmann Dematic Material Handling Division, as it was then known.

Then, in 1998, Dr. Dobner was appointed Head of Systems Development at Mannesmann Dematic Gottwald, where he recognised the potential applications of the principles and methods of the controlled positioning, path controlled automation of machine tools and welding robots to other fields of industry, such as Harbour Crane technology and driverless vehicles.

In 2004, Dr. Dobner was appointed Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of Gottwald Port Technology and, in 2006, he also became sole CEO.

Since 1 April 2010, Dr. Mathias Dobner became a member of the Executive Committee of Demag Cranes AG, which has its registered office in Düsseldorf, and was also appointed a Managing Director of our subsidiary Demag Cranes & Components GmbH.
