G HMK 4406 Mobile Harbour Crane at the Port of Brevik, Norway, shortly after completion of assembly. |
Grenland Havn Buys First Gottwald Model 4 Crane for Norway – External Power Supply Brings Benefits for Operation and Environment
Düsseldorf, 10 November 2009 –
Gottwald Port Technology GmbH (Gottwald), a subsidiary of Demag Cranes AG, has received
an order from Grenland Havn for a new Mobile Harbour Crane. This G HMK 4406, a variant of
Model 4, is the first of this type to be sold to Norway and can be powered either by the
on-board diesel generator or from the terminal's mains. In this north European country, Gottwald
cranes are often powered from the existing mains. The new crane will be mainly handling containers
in the Port of Brevik on the south coast of Norway. This Model 4 crane is the third Gottwald
Mobile Harbour Crane ordered by Grenland Havn: in recent years, the company has put two
HMK 260 E cranes into service.
Gottwald's Model 4 Mobile Harbour Cranes have lifting capacities of up to 100 tonnes and
a maximum radius of 46 m. This means that the machine is ideally suited to the requirements of
universal and special purpose terminals on the one hand and alongside vessels up to Panamax class.
At the same time, Model 4 is attractive for terminals which, on account of their size and
development potential, are already anticipating larger cargo-handling volumes and increasing annual
operating hours for handling equipment.
Model 4: Compact, High-Performance and Equipped for External Power Supply
Gottwald's Regional Sales Manager, Hans-Jürgen Schneider, commented on the latest order from
Norway: "As with all Gottwald Mobile Harbour Cranes, Model 4 provides high productivity,
reliability, cost-efficiency and environmentally compatible operation. This, the latest order from
Norway, brings to 18 the number of Gottwald Mobile Harbour Cranes installed in Norway, of which no
less than 14 are equipped to run on external power, which guarantees not only cheap but also
environmentally aware operation. Electrically powered cranes supplied by Gottwald provide our
customers with decisive advantages in their efforts to bring cargo handling in line with
environmental needs."
Sten Ulrik Heines, Technical Manager at Grenland Havn, adds: "We are very pleased about the
first Model 4 Mobile Harbour Crane installed by Gottwald in Norway. The machine is designed to
be compact and highly versatile and we are sure the G HMK 4406 will assist us in
reinforcing our competitive position even more. One of the decisive features that made us opt for
Gottwald technology is the electrical drive philosophy which makes it possible to run the crane on
electricity from an external source which, in turn, eliminates exhaust fumes from the terminal and
significantly reduces noise pollution."
