Irish Continental Group Opts for G HMK 6407 – First Gottwald Generation 5 Mobile Harbour Crane for Northern Ireland

Düsseldorf, 5 February 2010 – Gottwald Port Technology GmbH (Gottwald) has recently received an order from Irish Continental Group (ICG) for a new Mobile Harbour Crane for their operation at the Port of Belfast, Northern Ireland. This G HMK 6407, a variant of Model 6, complete with spreader, will be delivered to Belfast within the next few weeks and is due to begin operation shortly afterwards.

G HMK 6407 Mobile Harbour Crane from Gottwald to Improve Terminal Performance

The new crane is being used to improve container handling efficiency and throughput rates at Belfast Container Terminal (BCT), which is a division of ICG. This is a significant investment in the company’s Belfast operation and indicates their continued dedication to improving services for their customers. The G HMK 6407 is a Mobile Harbour Crane for high-performance applications and high handling rates – assured by lifting capacities of up to 100 tonnes, working radii of up to 51 m and hoisting speeds of up to 90 m/min.

“The new G HMK 6407 has a higher capacity than the port’s existing handling equipment with a longer outreach, enabling larger vessels to be discharged. In addition to having improved performance, the crane can also be connected to an external power supply and this will help the port to achieve its environmental targets of lower CO 2 emissions and reduced operational noise due to the crane’s capability of connecting directly into the harbour mains supply.” commented Alec Colvin, BCT’s General Manager.

First Gottwald Generation 5 Mobile Harbour Crane for Ireland

Gottwald was delighted to receive such a significant order from ICG, and this crane will bring to 13 the total number operating within Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.  The crane will be the first Mobile Harbour Crane of Gottwald’s Generation 5 to be operational at an Irish port. Gottwald will further support the installation and servicing of this crane and the others already operating in Ireland through service teams based in Belfast and Dublin.

Mark Reardon, Gottwald’s Regional Director for Northern Europe, emphasised: "The UK and Ireland region has been one of the most successful markets for Gottwald in recent years and the delivery of this, the 79th crane within this region, is a very good result coming only four years after the 50th crane was delivered. To complement our successful sales activities, we have made significant investment in our service team over the past three years and it is pleasing to receive the continued support of customers both old and new. We look forward to a positive and mutually productive relationship with ICG."
