Gottwald HMK 260 EG four-rope grab Mobile Harbour Cranes handling scrap in a UK port. Similar machines will be applied in two ports in Brazil. |
Düsseldorf, 4 May 2010 – Gottwald Port Technology GmbH (Gottwald) has recently sold two 4-rope grab Mobile Harbour Cranes for professional bulk handling to Brazil. Both Loxus Granéis Ltda. at the Port of Imbituba, an existing customer of Gottwald, and Vanzin Serviços Aduaneiros Ltda. at the Port of Rio Grande, a new customer, have ordered one HMK 260 EG each. These Generation 4 machines will be used for handling different bulk materials.
Second 4-Rope Grab Crane for Loxus Granéis Ltda., Imbituba
The new HMK 260 EG crane for Loxus Granéis Ltda., located in the Port of Imbituba, several
hundred kilometres south of Paranaguá, is scheduled to begin operation in July 2010 and will be
used for handling pet coke.
Loxus Granéis Ltda. was one of the first terminals in Latin America using Gottwald’s 4-rope grab cranes. In 2003, the terminal operator put an HMK 330 EG into operation, for professional hard coal handling. “Gottwald supplied us with the most reliable 4-rope grab Mobile Harbour Crane available in the market place,” said Luis Augusto Opice, Manager of Loxus Granéis Ltda. “And based on our positive experience with the HMK 330 EG, which achieves an average coal handling rate of more than 800 tph, we decided to opt for Gottwald again to increase our capacities.”
At the Port of Imbituba, Gottwald is not only present with its 4-rope grab cranes. In 2008, Gottwald was also successful in selling its Generation 5 technology to the port. Two Model 6 cranes have been in use here since then at the Tecon Imbituba S.A. terminal for handling containers and general cargo.
Gottwald 4-Rope Grab Crane Attracts New Customer – Vanzin Serviços Aduaneiros Ltda., Rio
Grande
At the Port of Rio Grande, the southernmost port of Brazil situated on the border
with Uruguay, Gottwald has been able to gain a new customer with its 4-rope grab cranes. The
customer, Vanzin Serviços Aduaneiros Ltda., will use the HMK 260 EG crane, which is scheduled to
start work in June 2010, for handling fertilisers and grain. "Gottwald’s excellent reputation was
decisive when it came to placing the present order," explained Leonardo Vanzin, Director of Vanzin
Serviços Aduaneiros Ltda. "We are absolutely convinced that Gottwald provides state-of-the-art
technology coupled with reliable service and that this, in turn, will provide us with the
competitive edge in bulk handling."
In the Port of Rio Grande, Gottwald has also been at home for a while. Two HMK 280 E and one HMK 300 E have been in operation at the Tecon terminal since 1997 and 2003 respectively. The two HMK 280 E machines were, at the same time, the very first Gottwald cranes delivered to Brazil. Most recently, Tecon Rio Grande ordered a Generation 5, G HMK 6407 Mobile Harbour Crane, a variant of Model 6, to improve their container handling capabilities.
“Our business in Latin America has been developing very satisfactorily in recent years and the two new orders are a sign that Gottwald is successfully pursuing its strategy to conquer the bulk handling market in this region as well,” said Gottwald’s Regional Product Manager Rainer Buessing. “ With the two HMK 260 EG cranes for Brazil we have gained important references and will further strengthen our reputation as an acknowledged provider of dedicated bulk handling equipment."
