Gottwald G HMK 6407 Mobile Harbour Crane handling containers at Port Manatee, Florida, USA. A similar machine is scheduled to start commercial operation in autumn 2010, bringing the number of Gottwald cranes in the port to two. |
Düsseldorf, 8 June 2010 – The Manatee County Port Authority, through a unique commercial agreement with the Logistec Stevedoring USA Inc, has acquired a second Gottwald crane to be used at Port Manatee, Florida, USA. The G HMK 6407 Mobile Harbour Crane from Gottwald Port Technology GmbH (Gottwald) is a variant of Generation 5, Model 6, and will be used primarily for handling containers. “This crane is technically identical to the first Gottwald Harbour Crane purchased in 2007 and we are very pleased with both its technical quality and operational capabilities,” said David McDonald, Executive Director of Port Manatee. The first G HMK 6407 was, at the same time, the first ever Mobile Harbour Crane in the port’s 37-year history.
The crane is scheduled to start commercial operation in autumn 2010 at Port Manatee, located on Tampa Bay, which is one of Florida’s largest ports and the closest U.S. deepwater seaport to the Panama Canal.
“The addition of the second Gottwald G HMK 6407 crane is essential for Port Manatee as we prepare for increased shipping traffic,” said Madeleine Paquin, President of Logistec. “We are very satisfied with our first Gottwald crane. The high hoisting speeds and the efficient, environmentally-compatible diesel-electric drive system are just two of the many features that made this crane our first choice. Based on our positive experience in the past we decided to stay with Gottwald when it came to boosting our container-handling capacity.”
Gottwald's current bestseller, Model 6 of Generation 5, is a Harbour Crane for high-performance applications and high handling rates – assured by lifting capacities of up to 120 tonnes, working radii of up to 51 m and very high hoisting speeds of up to 120 m/min. The G HMK 6407 variant chosen by Port Manatee has a lifting capacity of up to 100 tonnes, a particularly impressive lifting capacity curve and a maximum radius of 51 m.
"We are very pleased to note that Port Manatee has, once again, placed its trust in our company
and that the Gottwald crane will be making a key contribution to securing the port’s success
long-term,” said Bob Histon, Gottwald's Regional Director. “Model 6 is ideally suited to handling
containers alongside vessels up to post-Panamax size. It is also particularly satisfying that, once
again, the energy-saving diesel-electric drive concept of Gottwald cranes was a key factor in the
decision."
