With this special type of crane, the barges are fitted with rails upon which the Portal Harbour Cranes can be travelled thanks to their rail-mounted portals. The crane can thus serve several ship holds, travelling between them on its rail-bound portal, making it unnecessary to warp the barge or the vessel.

For HSK 170 EG Portal Harbour Cranes, Gottwald offers special travel equipment enabling the cranes to travel from quay to quay. And when additional stabiliser pads are fitted, the HSK 170 EG cranes can even operate on quays not equipped with rails.
