It was definitely an event worth celebrating when the Port of Matarani in South Peru commissioned a completely modernised, Gottwald 100-tonne HMK 280 E used Mobile Harbour Crane in August 2004. This was the very first Mobile Harbour and Harbour Container Crane in Peru. The customer Ecuaestibas in Guayaquil, Ecuador, also opted for a used HMK 280 E, the second Gottwald used crane at this port.
Turnkey Solutions – Modernisation and Transport
The 12-year-old HMK 280 E for Peru had worked reliably in Salerno, Italy, for 26,000 hours over 11 years: in order to ensure that the crane continues to work reliably, the customer also opted for customised modernisation. A new diesel engine was fitted with all the respective components. Following state-of-the-art modernisation, the customer now has a crane that has longer service intervals, satisfies the new environmental requirements, and is fit for a longer service life overall. In addition, the availability of spare parts can be guaranteed. After 12,500 operating hours in Carrara, Italy, an HMK 280 E was partially modernised and sent to a company in Ecuador.
But how do the cranes get from Italy to Peru and Ecuador? For some terminal operators, transport can represent a logistical challenge. But not for Gottwald, with its comprehensive know-how and many years of experience in the area of crane transport. Our two customers in South America were very happy to make the most of this know-how. Gottwald organised the entire logistics for transporting the cranes, starting with professional disassembly and shipping, right through to assembly and commissioning. Following intensive on-site training for the local crane personnel carried out by Gottwald experts, the two modernised used cranes were able to start their new work.
